I just got hired this morning and wanted to say Hi! I will probably have some questions in the upcoming years. My orientation/training is 6-8 months and i have to do the online Periop 101 class. I start October 20th. See you around :)

Specializes in Systems Analyst, RN.

Congratulations! I was also recently hired to work as an Operating Room RN and I start my training program October 14th, which I am told is anywhere from 6-9 months, and includes Periop 101. I'm excited to start! :yeah:

Specializes in 2 years school nurse, 15 in the OR!.

Congrats, I'm new to this site too. I did periop 101 back in 1998. It was a good program back then, I'm sure it's great now. Good luck and have fun!

First of all, I would like to congratulate you guys from getting hired :yeah:So how can someone (like me, a new graduate nurse :D) gets hired at OR? Beside ER I'm also interested in working at OR. When I was doing my clinical rotation at labor and delivery, the nurse at OR invited me to observe and witness a C-section and tubal ligation, and I think it was really interesting and fascinating. The nurse at OR is the first person that the client interacts with, and she'll be with her throughout the process, up until she's stable. Sigh* I would love to work at OR.

I'm not really sure, to be honest! I did my senior practicum in the NICU, and had a very difficult time finding a job in the NICU as someone from out of state.

My particular job is a residency for new BSN grads. I applied to two or three positions and only got an interview for the OR. This program knows that none of the nurses have prior experience, and it doesn't count against you.

I was in the right place at the right time. I'd imagine that if you did your practicum in the OR or had med/surg experience you might be a more attractive candidate.

YAY for new grads in the OR.. *I'm one too!!* :yeah:

We (4 of us hired) did PeriOp101 in July/August and have each done rotations through one service.. and started our second week of the second service today..

I'm having an absolute blast.. I knew this is where I belong.. so it makes the frustrations a bit easier.. but some days are really rough..

keep your chin up.. and WELCOME!

Well, i'm not a new grad, I just finished my first year of nursing on a Cardiac Surgery Telemetry floor. I've always wanted to work in the OR, but i'm glad that I got that experience first. It helped me to gain a lot of confidence and become more assertive. But now i'm ready for the OR!!
