New RN Grad, ADN

Hi all,

For reference, I am based in central NJ. Starting this Monday I will have been licensed for a month. I had applied to all the major hospitals within an hour drive a month ago. Most just say in progress or the dreaded not selected. So I have a few questions.

How long does it normally take HR to contact me regarding an interview, some people have said a month but I find that hard to believe.

Ideally, I want to be on a floor, I know I'm not the best option, with it being new grad season there are a lot of RN's and some with BSN.

Last week I went to a job fair for home health nursing, which is about my last choice but probably in front of a clinic, doctors office. I got offered to shadow a nurse for a day so of course, I said yes. How hard is it to go from home health nursing to the floor? I've heard a lot of mixed reviews.

I applied to get my PA license today since I am close enough to the border, is PA generally more accepting to ADN's?

Lastly, I am enrolled in a BSN, and I have my BLS and my ACLS. Is there anything else I can do?

tldr; How long to get an interview from an application, is the state of PA generally better with ADN (Easton, Bethlehem area) and is there anything I can else I can do? Id really like to hear from other ADNS but any help would be appreciated.

I live in New Jersey near Philadelphia. I had a hard time finding a job in the hospital right out of school last year, though my priority was working instead of finding the perfect job so I didn't wait too long to accept a position.

I took what was offered in the Skilled Nursing Facility to begin with and got some experience there. I currently have a pretty decent paying job with a home health company (with an office in Princeton as well) which offers opportunities with all populations, including Vents and trachs.

I think it is a good place to earn an income while working on the BSN. Which I plan to graduate with next month. I have class mates with little to no experience who have been hired into hospitals, especially less competitive Specialties like Psych. Good luck!
