Hopefully it will mean that Nurse Practioners and Nurse Consultants will no longer be paid at grades like F and G eqivilents... (which I've seen)
And is it just me or does there seem to be a bigger gap between 1-4 grades than the A-C gap.. allot of potential for differation in the HCA grades.... perhaps a shadow of the goverments plans and expanded roles for them...
My concern with the new payscales is the reduction in pay that nurses will receive for their unsocial hours. The document doesn't say how regularly the extra payment percentages are going to be assessed, if it is yearly or monthly. Some of my colleagues reckon they are going to lose a lot of money for working weekends and nights.
It seems the whole Afc package is to be published on the 27th, althoughthere are lots of the usual leaks here and there. All the unions are committed to consulting their members, try their sites. As for the pay offer, less than 3% for the first year, and even the best figure I've seen, of around 15% total over 3 years is not much better than we would have had from the PRB anyway. The difference being that for this amount we have to give up all sorts of conditions of service etc. and "earn" the pay rise.
I had a look through it tonight and I think Im even more confused mow than I was before. The only thing I can say is it looks like it might stop our management expecting us E grades doing the work of F's or even G's without appropriate acknowledgement.
I do wonder how it'll work out though as the E grades in my unit have vastly different skills/experience and responsibility. For example the E that works along side me works part time and does nothing outwith the responsibilities of the unit, which is her choice and Im fine with that. I work full time within the unit Im also one of our trusts Person Centred Planning facilitators and staff trainers (theres only 12 of us in the trust) Im the unit Moving & Handling Link Nurse and risk assessor and Im soon to go on the nurse prescribers course,(all of my own choice and I enjoy all of it, guess Im just a glutton for punishment!!) At present we're both top increment E so will we still both end up on the same pay scale?BTW we also have an F grade who chooses not to do anything outwith her unit responsibility which is why I volunteer for everything!
Well guess I'll just hold out and see what happens I havent expected any monetary acknowledgement for any of these things up to now so anything extra will be a nice bonus:)

Hello all you nurses from the UK. I spent 4 years in the Air Force at RAF Mildenhall and fell in love with your country. It is the most friendly and beautiful place I have ever been, and I have been all over the world. I really love Edinburough (know I spelled it wrong and london). My wife and I plan on returning to England to live in or around the London area someday. Probably in about 6 years. Currently I am in my last 3 month of nursing school. I have already been hire for an RN job in a Level III NICU when I graduate. What can I expect to earn if we move to London and I have 6 years experience and by then I will also be a neonatal nurse practitioner with about 3 years of experience. Just an educated guess would be a big help. Thanks
