I have no idea who you could contact. Thirteen hospitals, out of the twenty-three that were there prior to Katrina, are up and running. I again do not know if those thirteen hospitals are running at total capacity or not. Your offer is wonderful. If you want to help, volunteer with the Red Cross or the emergency response hospitals that are set up in tents, until their regular hospitals can get up and running again. We had two set up in the parking lots of two of our community hospitals, within twenty-four hours after Hurricane Charlie hit us on August 13, 2004. And there were rescue squads sent from other parts of Florida and several other states, that lent a hand in transporting people to hospitals in Sarasota, Manatee and Lee counties. And they were paid by FEMA. I know because I was taken into the ER of St. Josephs, seen, had two lines put into me and transported to Sarasota Memorial. I can remember thinking how much it was going to cost me. It ran over $2,500 and FEMA paid it all. For once I can say something good about FEMA.

We absolutely need all the help we can get. Sorry no one replied sooner, I've found that this section is used mainly by nursing students who just may not know. Please contact West Jefferson Medical Center, or East Jefferson Medical Center, Tulane University Hospital and Clinic, or Ochsner Medical Center and see what you can do. I'm sure one of them will be happy to help you get out here. Thanks!!

I'm an ER nurse in Ohio. Watching the today show this am. They were talking about how bad off the hospitals are there. (still). First let me say, God bless you all. Makes my complaints about staffing etc... seem trivial. Any way, I was thinking I would like to travel there, take some vacation time and help out with staffing. I could only do a couple weeks but, a couple weeks of another nurse may be better than nothing. (volunteer if needed). Does anyone know of any agencies that are dealing with this , or hospitals that I can contact. ( would need help with licensure etc. ) Once again,,,,, thank you for what you do for your community.
