Any MCC nursing students out there that can tell me what the first semester is like? Hopefully I will be starting in August and was just wondering what to expect.
Thanks

You will have 4 classes - 2 lectures, a 3 hr lab and a 6 hr lab. The hardest part of the first 8 weeks is to not be overwhelmed and to stay organized. It is a very exciting time and most people really enjoy it! How do you know you will be an August start?
I definately do not know for sure that I will be starting in August. I think like every other pre nursing student I am being optimistic and hoping I will be starting in August. My grades are good and I am not afraid of hard work so I am keeping my fingers crossed. Did you just start the program this year? How do you like it? What are the labs like?
Good for you and the best of luck on getting an August start!
The 3 hour lab consists of performing physical assessments (basically a physical) - you will have a lab partner and you practice on each other. This class has a midterm and a final (both require performing assessments on your partner) plus homework. The 6 hour lab goes over a lot of what you will come across in the hospital setting - taking vitals, positioning/moving patients, ostomies.... You will also have a hospital experience day for this lab. The Human Patient Simulator lab will also be introduced to you. You will have weekly written quizzes in this lab.
I started this past March and am just finishing up my 1400's. I am an older student and absolutely love that I decided to go this route. It is one of the best decisions I have ever made. It is also one of the hardest things I have ever done but it is worth it. The instructors are all wonderful and are committed to helping their students. There is also a practice lab that will help you on your journey so be sure to use it - Tracy runs it and she is great too.
Can I ask you what your GPA and HESI scores are? My daughter has applied and I am just curious as to how her scores compare.
Sounds great, I cannot wait to start! Good for you for going back to school, I also am an older student and think that I will be very happy with my choice to attend MCC. My GPA right now is 4.0 I am finishing up patho micro and don't expect it to change but you never know. My hesi is 97. Good luck to your daughter, maybe we will start together.
LOL You will be an August start for sure!!! :)
