New Nurse Salary

Nurses New Nurse

Published

I will be graduating in May...What are the current income ranges for new nurses? I hope to work in either the Surgery Department or the Emergency Department. I live in Cincinnati and I will graduate with honors. I heard the income for new nurses is around $42,000, my wife seems to think it is closer to $50,000. Anyone have any thoughts or opinions? Thanks!

Nate

Anyone know what the starting wadge for a BScN in NZ is? How is the cost of living down there?

I'm from Canada and our starting wadge is $27.00 if you are being paid for your degree (so if you are in a prt time or full time position).

Anyone know what starting wages are for the San Francisco Bay Area? I'm looking at entering nursing and wanted to get a read on what the local pay is before I make my decision (and try to break it to my wife).

I just have to say the mojority of y'all are really lucky. I'm just outside of Denver - working in a hospital in the metro area. My new grad pay with experience is $19.50. No chance for raise for one year, $1K sign on at time of hire, second 1K after finish 9 week new grad program and pass boards. It's comparable for the entire area. Oh yeah , our hospital has a good shift differential compared to most at $2.5 for eve / weekend and $4 for nights.

I'm single with three kids, cost of living here is horrible (single family home rents for $1250 bare min, and daycare for two kids ft is $1250 minimum also.)

Makes me want to move BIG TIME

In St Louis, GN pay is $15 and change ( more with experience as a Tech), $1-$1.50 night and weekend differentials. If you work at one of the union hospitals they just bumped pay to $16 but then you've got union dues. The odd thing is that the nurses are in the same union as the baggers at the grocery stores. How can you possibly receive accurate representation?? They do offer sign-on bonuses ($2,500-$5,000 usually) paid over a couple of years. I am graduating in May and can't leave town fast enough!! Cost of living is not all that cheap so I don't know how they justify it. :angryfire

anybody have any idea how much pay is for a recent grad in Chicago-land who holds an MSN??

Interesting twist............I graduate May 8th, and begin my RN job July 12...........for a major hospital in Cleveland, where nurses are on SALARY!! You get off at 330...and end up finishing report..charting..etc at 4..its your loss.

LOL! Annie, it's all in the way we perceive it, isn't it? See, for me I don't want to work the standard 8 hr shift with only 2 days off. I love 12's, and the option of having 4 days off. I love the flexibility of nursing. If I want a week's vacation during a standard 2 week pay period, I just schedule myself to work six 12's in a row. To me, that is a HUGE benefit of nursing. I wouldnt accept a salaried position. :coollook:

I Just Got Hired As A Grad Nurse At A Private Hospital Here In Miami And My Stating Pay Will Be $19.30 An Hour. Differential Range From $3.50-$8.00($8.00 Being For Weekend Nights). I Have An Eight Week Preceptorship And After I Pass My Boards(i Take Them On May 22), Then I Get A $5000 Sign On Bonus. Not Bad For The First Year Of Nursing. I'm Pleased!!!!

I'll be working in Montana maybe by end of this year.My starting salary is $18.00/hr.Is it a good start? Can I bring along with me my family?Pls. give me information regarding the cost of living in Montana!

Last September I started in the OR as a new grad. I started out at 22.23/hr, 6 months later got a 3 % raise and at 1 year will get a raise based on my performance review. I'm making about 47,000 for day shift; have not starting weekends or call yet and I'm living in Delaware
