I received my ADN in 2014 and became pregnant shortly after passing the NCLEX. By time potential employees called me for interviews I was obviously pregnant and did not receive any call backs. I'm sure it had nothing to do with the pregnancy and everything to do with the fact that I was a new grad. So I decided to go back and get my BSN while pregnant and try again this year as a new grad.
The issue I have is that I have been out of the clinical setting for a year. The BSN program at the university does community health and so I feel like I will be so clueless when I start working. I am so worried that I will be considered incompetent. Has anyone felt this way starting out? Has anyone had a gap between school and when they started working? And if so, how did it go for you?
I didn't have a gap, but to me, I don't see a problem. You will be in clinical, which will solve your "rusty" skills issues. You thought this out pretty well, staying as active and educated as you could while pregnant.
I have considered a residency program. I currently applied to the only one hospital near me that offers it and am waiting on a response. I wish residency programs were the norm at all hospitals.
