New NICU Positioners You Should Know About!

Has anyone heard of the new NICU MidLiner with FDA clearance by Tortle? We have been using their NICU products for several months now and have seen amazing outcomes! The NICU MidLiner can hold a baby perfectly in supine midline, side lying and prone positions and integrate with NICU respiratory equipment.

We have been using them for our IVH protocol (micro-preemies) and for prevention and treatment of dolichocephaly (toaster head) and head preference. These products far exceed the gel pillows and other positioners we have used in our unit.

I looked at the website for this product. It looks like a hat with a semi-circle of foam on it to keep the baby from moving its head. We have other things in the NICU that can produce this same effect.

I would encourage you to click on "Medical Professionals" when you look at the website. There you will find the NICU products I have referred to. There are no other products with similar functions. You may want to discuss these positioners with your PT/OT staff since they have the expertise in this field!

What is your motivation for telling us about these positioners? You say that your unit has had amazing outcomes. Would you please discuss this in further detail?

Pro tip: Don't use words like, "with FDA clearance" and expect us to believe that you are a staff member truly excited about a product that your NICU is using. It's possible that I'm being too cynical, but I have serious doubts.

Thank you for your comment. I just returned from speaking at a grand rounds about developmental care. As a NICU NNP for over 23 years that has just recently reregistered on All Nurses I believe I can talk about a new product that will benefit NICU patients. I personally have trialed and successfully used these products just like many other major institutions around the US. If you are interested in reducing your incidence on IVH, dolicocepahaly and head preference please consider these products.

Thank you for your response. My motivation is to help other units have better outcomes. We have seen a nice decrease in dolichocephaly and head preference. We still have work to do but i am excited about the progress!

FDA cleared is not the same as FDA approved. Our hospital can't purchase things that are not FDA approved. I also see

that these are sold on Amazon.
