I don't know about the Navy, but for Army officer basic, they didn't expect us to know too much about military rank/customs/courtesies. They taught us the Army Song and the Soldier's Creed, basic drill & ceremony, etc. However, those who were out of shape upon arrival were in for a world of hurt; we had a PT test in our first few days, and those who couldn't pass a PT test were held over for one cycle. At the end of the second cycle, PT failures were chaptered out. With the military getting leaner and smaller, a PT test can make or break a military career. I would recommend that you start working on your fitness today -- the sooner you start, the sooner you won't be out of shape (I am assuming from your post that it is one of your concerns). I started running the year that my packet went in because I was a bad runner, and I knew I'd be going in at some point. I still stress about PT tests (just because it's a test!), but I don't worry that I'll fail. So don't procrastinate! Best of luck to you, and congrats on getting selected for the Navy. :)

Hello all!! Was wondering if anyone else is going to ODS 8/18/13. I am a little nervous and would like to know exactly how ODS is. I have not memorized the ranks, marines hymn, etc. Basically I feel unprepared and would like to gain insight on the transition to ODS and if their were people who were out of shape when they arrived there?
