New Mom Working Night Shift

Nurses New Nurse

Hello, I’m a new nurse and applying to jobs but about 90% of the jobs that are hiring are night shift. My baby is almost a year old and she still wakes up in the middle of the night time to time. My husband doesn’t have a set schedule at work. He starts work at 9 and there are times when he comes back home from work at 9-11pm.
My mother cannot watch her during the night… so I’m kind of stuck in what I should do… anyone have any suggestions or stories/experiences on what you’ve went through? Thank you!

I went through similar years ago.  I found that a per diem job suited my family situation.

My spouse had to put his foot down with his employer and make arrangements to be home when I was working a PM or Noc shift.  At one time I found a Noc shift job that was weekends only, when my husband was off.  After I got enough bedside experience I put my kid in daycare and took a 9-5 for a year.  Eventually I got a day shift bedside job.  None of this is ideal for family life but you do what you gotta do.
