Anyone heard of Westbrook University?

Hi!

I'm a Westbrook University graduate student in the United States working toward a master's degree in counseling psychology and I certainly consider the university legitimate.

Westbrook -- which moved this academic year from New Mexico to Weirton, West Virginia, just outside Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania -- is licensed by the West Virginia Commission on Higher Education and is in the process of being accredited by the North Central Association of Colleges and Schools, one of six regional institutional accrediting associations in the United States. Several state nursing boards endorse the university's nursing program, but to my understanding the program is not accredited by the National League for Nursing Accrediting Commission, recognized by the U.S. Department of Education as the national accrediting body for nursing education programs.

I find the academic program in my area of concentration to be strong. I also find the university's faculty and administration to be caring and concerned about my performance and satisfaction. They have a good "bedside manner" -- much better, frankly, than that of my undergraduate institution, a highly regarded university in Illinois.

Again, I'm not in the nursing program, but from what I understand, the program is dedicated to advancing leadership in holistic nursing by pursuing excellence in research, education, and practice. Its faculty members are accomplished teachers, researchers and clinicians.

Is Westbrook the Harvard or Oxford of the holistic nursing world? I doubt it. Does it offer one of the most comprehensive, in-depth holistic nursing programs available through distance learning? I believe it does. Is the faculty serious about academics? In my experience, yes. Would the program help you, both personally and professionally? I certainly believe so.

A bachelor's, master's or doctoral degree from Westbrook, in my estimation, would provide you with an excellent foundation for a variety of holistic nursing opportunities. It would serve as an important stepping stone to a fulfilling, lifetime career as a holistic nursing practitioner and leader.
