New Member/ new nursing student

Hello, This is all new to me so please bear with me. I just lost my father last week and my thoughts are a little scattered. His death was unexpected and I now have to get ready to take nursing finals. Does anyone have any advice in preparing for finals I am 50yrs. old returning to school. I have wanted to be a nurse all of my life but didn't have the time to go to college before now. So here I am not feeling very sure of myself. I know a lot of students in my class are feeling the same as I. I am sure that it is common for most beginning nursing students to feel this way. Any words of encouragement would be appreciated. Bye for now!

i'm sorry to hear about dad. hugs to you. this is never easy. also, having to mourn for dad has got to be very difficult when school demands your attention. school can be grueling. what helped me and others in undergrad was to be a part of a study group, sharing notes. our group met regularly, rotating from one student house to the other to study in a relaxed atmosphere. we had a marker board to cover material as a group. the person who hosted that night was assigned the teacher, responsible to learn and teach the rest of the group on particular points/material. this assigned teacher role was rotated each time we met at each other's home. made it fun, but was down to business. worked well. just an idea. i am going to move your thread to the nursing student assistance forum to improve member feedback to you. wish you the best. as a student, please utilize the nursing student forums...for they are there for you.

I might be out of line here, but I had (what I can only name as)an out of body/near death type of experience. I wasn't dying, nor was I asleep, but I was travelling (in my mind). I came upon this area, kindof gray, dark, people standing around. It was so peaceful (this is where I thought I was dying, but realized I could still hear my hubby breathing next to me). The people didn't have faces, but it was as though I knew them. All I could think, is that if this is what heaven is like, I don't want ANYONE to cry for me! Yes, I know I said it was gray and dark, but not scary or dismal. I almost didn't want to open my eyes, but was so afraid I was really dying that I did.

Sudden death is never easy.

Everytime someone near me passes, I remember the feeling I had. It makes me smile...really.

Forge on with life! That is definately what Dad wants! Make him proud!

I am sorry for your loss.

Woogy
