Hi Michelle - while I can not answer your question about wages and salary, I can give you some idea of what you can expect from working on a med-surg oncology unit. First and foremost, the patients that you will be dealing with are going through some pretty tough life circumstances. Many of these folks are fighting for their lives. Some are probably getting chemotherapy, others radiation therapy and some may be receiving comfort and pain management measures to help them as they die with dignity.

I am certain there will be many emotional times as well as times when you have the chance to impact someone's life in a positive way. Oncology nursing is not just another nursing job, I think of it as a true calling. Over the years, I have had the privilage and pleasure to work with some outstanding nurses in the oncology field. They were compassionate and really belonged in oncology.

For you, I applaud your desire to work in this area. It is a great area to start out, althought, it can be emotionally draining. Good luck to you.
