New here, just passed my Algebra

Published

I'm new to this board. SAHM of 3 little ones going back to nursing school, I have one year done. I took a summer course for my Algebra class on-line. I know I could have worked harder and it was SO stressful to cram it in during the summer. My grade was just posted and I got a C+. I can't help but feel disappointed. Can anyone help me not feel so bummed? I haven't been in school for the last 5 yrs and then I jumped right into an online course.

Online classes are not for everyone. I absolutely hated taking online classes as a student -- kinda strange because I teach them. I need the experience of physican interaction with other students in a learning environment. I have come across tons of of people have the same issue. Unfortunately, they usually enjoy the lack of structure so much that they don't realize how much better they could do in a traditional (classroom) setting.

In a classroom setting, you benefit not only from your own interaction with the instructor, but also from observing the assistance provided to others. Plus - the obligation to 'be present' (mind and body) in a group enhances your personal engagement in the learning. Sort of like working with a personal trainer rather than forcing yourself to adhere to an exercise routine on your own. This is even more critical in subjects that require a lot of interaction/coaching by the instructor, such as math or science

Bottom line? Don't beat yourself up, but I would advise you to steer clear of online venues whenever possible in future classes.

It's already done so you can only reflect and move on from that grade.Take the time to really look at WHY you got that grade? Did you make enough time to study? Were you busy with the kids? Were you not motivated? Did you run out of time? Did you not understand the material? Be honest and go from there,BUT you must figure this out now because the classes in nursing will only get harder. You must find the time for yourself to study.

I am a mommy too and I Always have mommy guilt if I take the time to study. What I have learned is I can ONLY really study at the library or after the kids go to sleep.I tried to fight that,I tried to take time during the day but it never worked out..so I just changed my whole sleeping schedule around, the hubbie helps them get ready in the morning and I have my study time..find out what can work better in your situation for next semester.

Don't feel bad at least you passed, You learn from things and move on and do better. Was this class prealg or alg? At my school they look at what is required for the actual program which is alg. Nursing school is very compeitive so yes you do want to have a high gpa. See if your school will allow a second retake and will use the higher grade.
