New Jersey Hospitals: easy or hard to get in?

Published

Hi everyone,

I really want to work at Robert Wood Johnson Hospital in NJ and I feel so invaluable as a nurse because they never respond. Every time I call, the recruiter is never there!!! Even to get a simple question answered as to how much will they pay a new grad is impossible to find out. So when is the best time to apply and how easy is it to get a job on a med-surge floor? Also I feel like just because I didn't go to Rutgers its impossible for me to get picked over someone that went to Rutgers. Will they ever respond? Do they really like Rutgers students better than others? I thought a nurse was a nurse:o

Hey, sorry to hear that. Which school did you go to?..Right now I'm at Seton Hall University. I hope I don't run into problems like these when I graduate..Seton Hall's program is supposed to be good.

They might prefer Rutgers graduates over others since they probably do their clinicals at Robert Wood Johnson. I guess stay patient.

Hope everything works out well.

I'm sure this isn't the response you want, but I had very little luck with NJ hospitals. I applied to nearly every hospital from Robert Wood Johnson northward. I didn't get any responses whatsoever. I still get emails saying that they're looking for nurses with more experience, or they're not hiring new grads.

I had better luck in New York. My biggest suggestion is to scour Spectrum or Advance for job fairs and go to them. Bring plenty of copies of your resume, dress professionally, and be prepared to interview on the spot. That did the trick for me in NYC.

Best of luck on your job search.

Did you go to a NJ school for your degree? I'm going to apply to the hospitals while simultaneously going to job fairs. Thanks for the advice. No, it isn't what I wanted to hear but at least now I'm hearing something since I haven't been hearing from the hospital recruiters.

I was a new grad 2 years ago looking for jobs in NJ (graduated from out-of-state school) and heard from recruiters from Capitol Health (in Trenton- they were the fastest), St. Peters, and Centrastate (in Freehold). Have you tried those? I did not hear at all from RWJUH (either New Brunswick or Hamilton one) but heard they didn't hire new grads.

I didn't start applying yet because I still have to transfer over to NJ. I started getting worried because I wasn't even getting replies even to my general questions, so I figured it would be the same once I applied. But I will look into Centrastate, I never heard of that one. Thank you.
