As someone that is trying to join the Navy right now, I'm curious what our future is in Iraq. I know we're doing airstrikes and the President stated that he will not send any ground troops there, but what will it be like for military nurses in the preceding months/years with this? Will more nurses be sent overseas to that area? Will they be looking for more nurses (and troops in general) to join the forces because of this?

Aren't we all.
No one here can reasonably speculate as to how things are going to shake down across the Atlantic. That all depends on US politics, Iraqi politics and what happens on a minute by minute basis.
The bottom line for anyone joining is to accept the possibility of deployment and understand that we are fighting an enemy that utilizes guerilla warfare as its primary method of fighting. As a result, you--even as a nurse--may be exposed to combat and direct fire.
I am ready to go overseas and help our men and women. That's not an issue at all! :)

Very doubtful there will be any more ground action other than "advisers" aka special operations in the area. It would look very very bad on the administration to send troops BACK into Iraq for a war that has nothing to do with us.

To be honest, we probably will be staying out of Iraq for awhile. The military is shifting their attention to the Asian-Pacific region with high tensions with North Korea, China, and Russia. The conflict with land claims in Asia is the biggest thing that they have going on for them. As China continues to expand their naval force, we can see a possible attempt for them to take disputed islands causing some type of conflict with countries we are allied with ex. Japan. But when ever that is the military will continue downsizing.
