Hey guys and gals, I accepted my first job as an acnp in San Francisco. Its a closed ICU model and the NPs pretty much manage all care and procedures. I am currently waiting for credentialing and priveleging and starting to get nervous! I have been an ICU RN for 3+ years and did some travel nursing in ICU.
Are there any specific books that any ICU NPS swear by or recommend? The ICU manages CV surg, transplants, medical patients, ecmo, vads, and more...
Excited but nervous. During interviewing I spoke with a few NPS who were new grads as well and they were so supportive, energetic and spoke highly of the team!
Thanks in advance!

the one stated above is pretty good. I also like mass gen hospitals manual. there are quite a few good books on amazon written by intensivists that provide the needed information.

In my experience, a lot of care in the Cardiothoracic Surgery and Solid Organ Transplant patient population are surgeon preference driven. There are some variations in approach but the goal and end-outcome is the same. I was given this book by an attending when I first started working in Cardiothoracic Surgery ICU in the Midwest: Wiley: Manual of Perioperative Care in Adult Cardiac Surgery, 5th Edition - Robert M. Bojar
Hopefully, you have a formal ECMO class but if not you can always refer to the ELSO website for information: https://www.elso.org/. They have published an ECLS manual but I don't think you necessarily need to purchase that book yourself (hopefully your group has one in the office for NP's to refer to: https://www.elso.org/Publications/RedBook4thEdition.aspx.
If you haven't cared for VAD patients, your best resource are the specific VAD Manuals depending on the model or manufacturer.
In terms of ICU care, I usually don't use texts as much nowadays. Refer to articles in journals and websites for up to date practice guides such as:
Sepsis - Surviving Sepsis Campaign | Surviving Sepsis Campaign
ARDS - NHLBI ARDS Network | About
Therapeutic Hypothermia - http://circ.ahajournals.org/content/108/1/118.full
Critical Care Bedside Ultrasound - look up specific websites of manufacturers like Sonosite or GE
I also keep a Hospitalist Handbook by me all the time just to look up some stuff not usually covered in Critical Care texts. I use this: https://www.agilemd.com/partners/ucsf-hospitalist-handbook
I use this one for antibiotics: http://idmp.ucsf.edu/idmp-mobile-app. Unfortunately, it is specific for the institution I work for.
Also, SCCM is a great resource for any ICU professional. I would get a membership and use their website.
