New to HHC

Hi, I am new to HH. I came from a medsurg floor. I haven't been a nurse for that long. I feel like a fish out of water not just the paperwork but it can be scary when you are out there all by your lonesome and my supervisor seems a little discouraged with me because it is taking me awhile to get the hang of things and I am constantly asking questions. Any input would be nice from all of you out there that feel my pain :bluecry1: I do like HH though!

Hi Jonesy,

Sorry, just saw your thread or I would have responded sooner. Been so caught up in starting HH myself!

I think its great that you've got a couple of years of med/surg. experience under your belt. That is the 'meat and potatoes' of nursing, and gives you a great background for dealing with everything else.

The paperwork is pretty daunting in HH, and I know its going to take me a while to feel even semi-comfortable that I'm doing it right.

From what I'm being told, you can't expect to feel comfortable for a year - both out in the field, and with the paperwork. Which is why I think it is so important to make sure you get a full orientation, and don't let anyone make you feel that you are not catching on quickly enough.

It's your license, and when you are out at someone's home, all by your lonesome, of course it is going to be natural to feel pretty trembly.

But I have a feeling the procedures will come back to you once you start doing them. And spending some time reading up on basic wound care procedures, stomas, diabetic teaching etc. beforehand should help give you confidence. At least that is what I'm doing.

There seems to be a bunch of us newbies just strarting out so we can be a support to each other!

Good luck, and please keep us updated on how you're doing. :icon_hug:

WOW! Bless you Weetziebat! Thanks for the input! Welcome to HH. Yes, I have heard that to that HH is a whole new specialty in itself and that it will take a year to get comfortable paperwork and all. I just have to not let people get me down when I make mistakes on the paperwork and yes regaurdless if they want to or not someone with more expirence needs to accompany me out in the field if I haven't done a certain procedure because there are some things I haven't done in the hospital that you have to do out in the field and it is for the saftey of the patients! Thanks again :icon_hug:
