There's no telling how often you will be called at minutes to 5 to go see a patient since you're on the clock til 5. However, like you said and know, you must be available. Like I used to tell my employees when I was their DON, I don't care if you have to do the childcare thing before 5, just know that you owe the company that time after 5. Most people were cool with that. We pay you benefits based on 40 hours a week and we expect 40 hours in some form, shape or fashion. So if you have to go pick your kid up at 4 and it takes til 5 to get all that done, expect to work til 6 (or similar). I scratch your back, you scratch mine, that kinda thing :)

Hi! I am new to HH. I am currently in orientation. I started out in my hospital system as a PRN float RN and they had openings for PRN HH and thought I would give that a try. So far it seems as I expected, not much like the hospital.
Anyway, when I was talking to a HH recruiter (same company), she was saying that the HH full timers are salary. I am trying to decide if it would be better for me to take on 4 days of PRN days. (6 patients) or work full time 5 days a week. I have 4 kids and I am hoping that I can schedule around things enough that most days I am home to get them from school.
Any thoughts on this? I know that with the FT position, I would have to be available until 5 every day. But not necessarily out visiting that late. Although, they may call me at 445 and send me somewhere, which is fine. I am just wondering how often that kind of thing happens.
I worked a HH job for about 2 weeks after I got out of nursing school, but it wasn't like this. I had the same pediatric patient every day that I worked and it was a full 8 hour shift. I didn't really like that. From reading the site, the HH info people post her, seems more like I expected.
Anyway, any help would be appreciated. Just trying to make sure I get the best fit for my family.
