New guy here...sayin' hello

Published

Hey people,

I've decided this week to leave the IT world for nursing school. I've got some prereqs to take this summer, then hopefully start NS in the fall. I'm 30 years old.

I been perusing these forums for about a week trying to scare myself out of it, but the nursing field seems to have a lot of career options. Hopefully, I can find something that suits me. This seems to be a very supportive community, and I hope to start sharing my struggles soon! I start class on Monday (Psych, Micro, A&P).

Thanks,

Kurt

Welcome aboard and good luck. I'm another soon to be former IT guy going for something different. I banged out my pre-reqs between summer and fall last year and started an evening/weekend program in January. So far so good, and I'm having a blast learning things that were formally way out of my comfort zone, but that is what keeps you young. My only regret is I didn't do it sooner, but we all work at different paces.

Welcome aboard!

Speakings as a nursing student in my 40's I think we bring a lot to the table that can help us become great nurses. And as I tell my younger student friends, way I see it, at my age I won't have to wait as long for retirement as they will :p

What up!Welcome to Allnurses.I am a fairly new member myself. I am 17 and I have known taht I've wanted to be a nurse for a while Im graduating in 2 weeks from high school. I hope to be a Nurse Practitioner one day. Some people outside the healthcare field may look at you strange but as I did my CNA clinicals and shadowed at a local hospital I found that everyone is happy to have more males who want to be nurses and not just for the money.
