I'm also having the same problem getting a job. I've been an LPN for approx. 5 years with cardiac experience, but most places don't count that experience, they want at least 1 year of RN experience. The place I work at now is having a "hiring freeze", so I'm still working as an LPN until I can find RN employment. I've been trying to apply out of state, but most of those jobs also require previous RN experience. It's very depressing, and I realized that I've wasted my money and time getting an RN degree when I can't even find employment. It was very easy for me to get LPN employment then it is to get RN employment. I also spent money registering for an ACLS course which I can add onto my resume, which hopefully will make me stand out from the rest of the new grad candidates. My family is telling me that they are proud of me for completing school while working 2 jobs, but I feel like a complete failure when employers are repeatedly slamming the door in my face.

I know guys this is a hard pill to swallow! I just got my RN license in January and I have been going through the same things. I finally got a position at PSA Healthcare which is home health, I think it is cool but you know you want to have that hospital experience. Most jobs here in tampa, fl want us to have at least a year experience and it sucks pretty bad! I was not an LPN so I don't even have that experience but hopefully it gets better soon! I feel your pain!

Hi latoya, thanks for the post we have to network, it is hard, RN and cannot get a job but as soon as i do will post to that affect, those of you who are lpns please stay on your job until you get the job you want. Do not be quick to plunk down that RN, you may be in for a surprise, 2.00 more an hr., and you will loose vacation pay, NEW RN does not live up to all it is suppose to be good luc.

Yes you are so right! We have to network with as many people as we can, sometimes it is not what you know but who you know that will get you the position you so desire. I hope all of those who are looking finds something real soon!

I have to agree with the last post. I just graduated this past January and acquired my license in February. I started networking right away, not just with people I knew but also with the staff at the hospitals where I had clinicals. I secured an interview even before acquiring my license and will begin working in the ED in a major hospital in the area where I live in.
It did help that I did have continuous 4 year work history working in various acute care settings as an LVN.
Just be persistent. I know that I was. Just not to the point where you get on the recruiters nerves. I would send either an inquiry email about every 3 weeks and a phone call about once a month. Worked for me.
Good luck.
