New Graduate RN—verbal offer advice

Nurses Job Hunt

Published

Hello,

Advice needed!

I recently had an interview for a new graduate RN position. The interview seemed to go well. I had a verbal offer toward the end of the interview pending background, reference check, physical and other paperwork.

My questions are as follows:

- Is it common to receive a verbal offer at your first interview?

- Should I expect the offer in writing? If so, from the time of my interview–when should I expect a formal offer?

- The DON said I should be starting training in a couple of weeks. Is that enough time to get everything done?

- Last, should I expect to hear from the DON again, or should I be hearing from the HR department?

Thank you very much for any insight you may have.

It's not especially common, but it happens. You should get a formal offer in writing and that will be when everything checks out with HR which yes can take a couple weeks. You may hear from the DON or HR, I think it depends on the facility. Congrats on the job offer!
