New graduate nurse applications

Published

I am in the process of applying for new grad programs and would love any advice. I am a bit unfamiliar with the application process and how best to present myself on paper, particularly in terms of the selection criteria. Does any one know of any good resources to use as a guide for nursing resumes? I'm feeling pretty overwhelmed and any advice anyone could give would be hugely appreciated. Thanks!!

Hi Maria, I have just finished applying for 2 jobs and I am a senior nurse coming from Canada. I am so NOT used to applying for positions in this manner so I started doing a search on selection criteria on the net, and found some good sites with good advice. I found info on http://www.graduatecareers.com.au/content/view/full/131 on preparing your application. and a very good one on a web site Victoria Careers with the Victorian government. http://www.careers.vic.gov.au/ . I also had another nurse in my office, who has a Masters in Education, advise me, she told me to read and re read the selection criteria and find what they are asking for..ie one is usually about your professional development, one about what teaching you do, etc etc. Take your time and write out all the things you can think of that might pertain to that question and narrow it down. Good luck!:typing

everything i need to know

how do i apply for a job when i graduate?

positions for new graduates in queensland are available either with queensland health or with private hospitals across the state.

for graduates seeking a position with queensland health, there is a centralised online recruitment system to manage the recruitment of graduate nurses. all applications for graduate nurse positions in queensland health facilities, must be submitted via this online system.

applications for graduate nurse positions with private hospitals will need to be submitted via that hospital's graduate nurse application process. if you are unsure - contact the hospital concerned to inquire.

the queensland health online application system opens twice per year to receive applications:

  • in august to receive applications for 'start-of-year' programs
  • in march to receive applications for 'mid-year' programs

this in only for a graduate nurse program. to apply as a new grad, in qld at least, go to thinknursing.com (i think i have added the victorian and nsw sites on the sticky at the top of this forum)

now unless you have citizenship you will have to apply for a visa. many hospitals will actually support you in obtaining a visa.

here is a good resource with links for overseas applicants

Thank you so much for your help! I truly appreciate it. I have an interview this week, so all your advice was really useful. Anyone an expert on interviewing or have a few tips? Thanks again!
