Yes -- please update and let us know what area you are looking for work in.
My husband will be relocating next year and we are considering Texas, but only if I can find a job there as it was truly impossible to find work as a nurse in our current location (metro Salt Lake City, Utah). Just way too many nurses and nursing programs pumping out new graduates every semester.
What area of TX are you looking for jobs in? I will be a Dec 2011 GN and am concerned about the prospects.
I've been looking almost around Houston. I even went to some rehab and nursing homes. The Med Center is very populated with unemployed new grads and also RNs with experience looking for a job. Nursing now is very much competitive. In the internship program itself they are almost 1,000 applicants in every 30 intern position. We should never lose Hope guys!
I have looked all over Texas I will post about my experience and advice to others once I gain a postion. I have learned a lot over the search process and will definitely pass on what I have learned so others can avoid the mistakes I made and have an easier search. Hopefully very soon my search will be over and I will update here for everyone.

You won't find a different situation in Texas, or at least not in the major metroplex and surrounding (1.5 hour-ish drive one way) areas. DFW alone has more than 25 nursing schools churning out new graduates about every four months. Unless you know someone, getting those internships is next to impossible. Speaking with the recruiter where I work (I graduate in December), their last round of new grad internships had roughtly 300+ applications per opening. This is after hiring from within for most of the positions. At least three of the major hospitals (THR, Baylor and HCA facilities) will not consider ADN candidates at all unless already employed there while going through school.
The only places I know of in Texas still desperate for nurses are along the Texas/Mexico border towns, and there is a reason for that. Some rural areas are still hiring as well, but those are likely not internships and will be more of an orientation situation. Suburbs are not considered rural - anything within 1.5 hours of the major cities is pretty much considered a reasonable driving distance. You'll want to look in truly small towns pretty far out from anything and without a college town (with a nursing program) nearby.
I wish you the best of luck. Texas is no longer place the recession skipped. Times are hard here. Very hard.
It is definitely considered a "major" city and has several schools there. There is a nursing school in Austin, just one hour to the north also, which is a completely saturated market. San Antonio has not been a good place for new grads.
There is a community called Temple, which has Scott and White - they do new grad internships and a few from out of state did get hired there for the June internships. It is a couple of hours from SA I believe.
