New Grads Getting Jobs in SFL

Published

Hi I've seen posts about the the working conditions in SFL, but I was wondering how recent new grads are doing getting jobs in the Miami area. I will graduate in over a year but I'm just curious, how difficult was it to get your first job after graduating... I'm wondering if new grads get stuck taking the night shifts and working on med/surg floors (nothing wrong with those... just not my cup of tea). Have any of you gotten hired directly into ICU or ER (more my flavor)? Thanks for any input! ;)

Right now with the lay-offs and hiring freezes in place all over the country, do not count on anything to be the same as it was just six months ago.

New grads are having problems in many locales and Florida is not immune from this. New grad programs are actually being placed on hold as well.

Focus for now on getting thru your program. And best of luck to you.

I am in North Central Florida and Im a new grad. I was actually laid off from the hospital where I worked. There are a lot of hospitals in a hiring freeze right now. My former classmates are looking into other fields. Thank God I still had my job as a tech in a nursing home/rehab. They offered me a postion as an RN, and they are paying more than the hospital was going to pay. Im still going to try to get a PRN position at a hospital, but Im not holding my breath.
