New Grad wanting an extension for orientation

I just recently got a job at a hospital as a new grad and got really excited to accept the offer. The HR said I can start orientation on April 18th and I excitedly said yes without thinking. But after a few hours, I realized that I want to start a little later like May 27th. Do you think there's a chance they will accept my request or reject my request? Will there be a chance that they'll take back the job offer if I ask for an extension?

Thank you.

If the facility has a structured new grad program the start dates are likely firm.  However, some facilities have multiple start dates throughout the year.  If so, you might be allowed to start with the next cohort.  Your best course would be to discuss this with your recruiter.

Best wishes.

I agree with chare.  The hospital I started with as a new grad had programs starting in July and December.  I was in ED but they hire new grads in all departments; part of orientation was a weekly class we ALL took on hospital policy, how to use our benefits, etc. Plus for ED and ICU staff we took our ACLS, PALS, etc classes together.

You can always ask about the extension but have in your head if you are willing to possibly lose the position or start at the time you originally agreed to.

Good luck!
