New grad stuck between options

Specializes in New grad.

Hi all! I’m a new nurse grad that just graduated a cpl months ago. Im currently in the beginning weeks of orientation at an outpatient clinic. I was lucky to land a job right out of nursing school working in an office 4 days a week with holidays and weekends off. I am conflicted on what to do. I received a job offer at my former employer at a local hospital for acute rehab for 7p-730a. I never wanted to work med surge but was considering acute rehab because I worked on that floor as a PCA. Working in rehab will give me the opportunity to gain nursing skills while the office is a pretty decent schedule. The office is pretty fast paced and keeps me busy but I find that I’m really not interested in ortho. There’s not many skills involved at all. I also have a school age child so scheduling is something to consider as well. I just don’t want to make a mistake. Any feedback or thoughts are appreciated thanks in advance.

It seems like you have already made the decision that makes the most sense for your personal life.

Acute rehab is a lot like med/surg. Extremely busy, but not as bad on night shift. I would recommend thinking about what your overall goal is. Do you just want to work? Do you want career growth? Are you more interested in practicing nursing skills? Where do you want to be in 5 years?

Maybe this is just a good starter job? It's a lot to sort out when you have the responsibility of children. good luck.
