My son just graduated yesterday and already has a job in a Neuro ICU with a hospital that has a wonderful graduate nurse program. His goal is to become a Nurse Practitioner in the future, and he is very excited about the opportunity to learn critical care in this Neuro ICU. However, he is also very nervous, as there is not a lot of neuro training in nursing school. I'm trying to decide what to get him for a graduation gift. He already bought himself a good stethoscope which seems to be a standard nursing grad gift. I'd appreciate any ideas form neuro nurses on gifts, or anything that might help with this new challenge awaiting him caring for critically ill neuro patients.

Not too fancy, but his own good flashlight for pupil checks.

I agree with amoLucia that a good flashlight/penlight is important (buy more than one as you tend to lose them when you lend them to other nurses). Also a few pairs of scissors (all great stocking stuffers for the holidays).
