new grad speaking with hiring manager today

Published

Hello all, so I have a family member (my sisters mother in law) who works in a nearby county school district office and she spoke to the hiring manager who handles all of the hiring for the support staff in the county which includes the school nurses. So she told the manager about me and the fact that I have a bachelors degree and will be graduating with my nursing degree in May. The manager apparently said they are in need of nurses and that he would like to talk to me. So, I will be calling him today.

My question is, what type of questions should I ask? I looove the idea of being a school nurse and being in that environment but I really don't want to be thrown into a bad situation being a new grad and all. Part of me really hopes something works out because I know it can be really difficult to find a job as a new grad these days but I also don't want to set myself up for failure! I'm clearly way ahead of myself as I haven't even been offered a job but just looking for any thoughts on things I should look out for or ask!

Thanks for any thoughts!

Ask about how many students, how many schools do you cover, how many medically fragile students, how many diabetics, are you expected to teach etc. Are there policy and procedure plans in place, Will htere be an opportunity for orientation? Good Luck!
