Hello everyone,
I'm new to Sacramento, CA and also a new grad/RN, BSN. Having a difficult time obtaining employment because I don't have a year of acute exp. My dilema is that I have been persistant with the hospitals in the area and don't seem to be making any head way. However, sometimes I know that if you know someone it may be easier to get noticed/looked at. If anyone in this area has any suggestions, please share them. I really want to begin my nursing career.
Thanks,

I am also newly licensed in California since july, I was advised to take a RN refresher course even though I had just passed the boards since I moved from overseas and have not practiced in about 5 yrs. My RN refresher which includes clinical, since not all of them do, it is almost over and still haven't found a job in Sac area. I does seem like you have to know someone and I really don't know anyone so any help would be greatly appreciated!!!!! I am bi-lingual (spanish) and have a BSN
Actually, according to recent reports on the news, the Sacramento area has 5 nursing schools, putting out more graduates than there are available jobs for new grads. Especially due to this economy, the jobs are going to more experienced nurses.

I'm a new grad of 2 months and got my job by attending a senior nursing student open house. I went on a unit tour and made a point to connect with the nurse manager of one of the units. I e-mailed this manager every other month until I passed boards. (About 8 months) When it came time to find a job, I was hired by this same nurse manager over other applicants.
My suggestion would be to attend any and all open houses you can find at the hospitals. Contact local nursing programs and see when they are having job fairs. Get your name and resume out there. Volunteer if you need to. Find local community outreach programs to volunteer with. Things like fundraising walks/runs, civic center education drives, health awareness, etc... These all look great on a resume.
Good luck!

Hello All! I am having the same problem myself. I'm in Placerville area and everyone wants you to have acute care experience. I landed a PT school RN position, but I really want to build my skills and have more foundation to be able to function as a school RN. I graduated Fresno State with my BS Summa Cum Laude and a 3.95 and no one will even return my calls. Its extremely frustrating. If anyone has ideas, please send them my way. Good luck to all finding something! Cheers!, Tristan
