I just graduated in may 2013 and passed nclex. Im located in louisiana and looking for new grad RN jobs out of state. How hard was it to find these jobs? Did anyone move first, apply for jobs and applied for compact state transfer license or what? I'm looking at states in north area from North Dakota, South Dakota, Nebraska, Illinois, Tennessee, North Carolina, Virginia, Wisconsin, etc. any suggestions would be great.

I applied out of state, and I applied first. Accepted my job last month and today is moving day!
IMO, there is no sense in moving somewhere until you are guaranteed a job. What if you moved to Virginia (as an example) and got a job in Illinois? Or worse, what if you moved to Virginia and then only looked in Virginia because you moved there? If you are willing to move, it would make sense to me to apply to jobs in every single one of those states you have listed, and then move after you get hired. Granted, it does mean you will likely have to do a lot of driving for a job interview, but what's cheaper - hotel and gas costs for interviews, or moving to the wrong place and being unemployed for months? I hope that helps. :)
