New Grad RN Salary Sacramento, CA

Hi there! 

I was recently offered a new grad RN position with one of the dignity health facilities in the Sacramento area, but have not yet discussed pay. I am having a hard time finding information on starting pay in MedSurg. As a new grad I feel like I should take whatever I can get! But I do want to have a general idea of what to expect in this area. As a side note, I do have my BSN as well ? Thank you in advance!

You'll never make more as a nurse than you will in NorCal. Dignity doesn't pay quite as well as Kaiser or Sutter, but you'll still be starting out at $50+/hr, probably more. Sutter starts at $60ish for newer nurses (I make about $80 there now per diem), and I'm making $96/hr benefited (that includes the $12 night differential) at Kaiser with 6 years experience. Per diem at Kaiser averages $100/hr plus differential, depending on experience.

Bottom line- take any job here. You can always transfer out of Dignity in the future.

I am not a nurse yet, but I agree I usually see the pattern of people leave dignity for sutter, kaiser gets sutters leftovers or they are usually employed at both. UC Davis is like the middle of th spectrum. This pattern goes for any kind of position though,nurses, management, rt’s. etc.
