New Grad RN Program VA Hospital Palo Alto 2011

Published

Has anybody applied to the new grad RN program at the VA Hospital in Palo Alto that is to begin this fall? I have been told by 3 classmates that the closing period is tomorrow 8/19/11 but the job period says 8/25?? ALSO, has anyone who applied received anything from the Nurse Recruiters? Anything will help, Thanks!

Hi there,

I applied to the position as well. It was originally supposed to close 8/19, but since they got it posted late, they are leaving it open until 8/25. I would still apply as soon as possible though because i'm sure they are getting flooded with applications. There is a flyer that describes what information needs to be included with the application. They have specific requirements for the resume and cover letter.

Good Luck

Thanks for your reply!

Do you know the required clinical hours for an RN? I tried looking on the BRN website I wasn't able to find it anywhere! What did you put down on your resume? Also, did you break down the hours for the different areas (ex: med/surg, telemtry, psych, maternal, etc)?

Im not sure what the exact requirements are. I think I remember hearing over 600. I graduated with a BSN and i have 750 clinical hours. As for the clinical rotation break down, I did break it down by semester and unit, ex:

El Camino Hospital - Med/Surg Floor - 90 hours.

I hope this helps! Good Luck :)

I'm considering applying for this position, but I am curious, do I need to have my license already, I plan to take NCLEX in a couple weeks

I think you have to already have your RN License because they want it listed in your resume. You can check the job link to make sure though.

Thanks RNnicu42! Good luck to you as well

If you read the requirements closely you do not have to put clinical hours on your resume. Instructions state "Clinical rotations, AND number of hours of any volunteer experience or any previous work experience related to the position, such as EMT, EKG Tech, Surgical Tech, etc. Include date of graduation from nursing school and your RN license number and State."

That just means where you did clinical rotations and the number of hours of volunteer or work experience that is related to the job. A certain number of hours are required by the board so by being licensed it is assumed that you have completed these hours. All ADN programs should have similar amount of clinical hours, as all BSN programs should have similar hours.

I applied for the position. I called the Recruiter and he said that they are still looking through the applications and they should be closer to a decision within 2wks.

Good luck guys :):)

has anyone gotten a call for an interview yet?

Nope..

I don't know if you tried emailing the recruiters but the default message I received about 1.5 weeks ago said they're in the process of reviewing over 700 applicants and their goal to complete the initial round of phone interview/screening is by the end of Sept. If you don't get a call then you will receive an automated rejection email in Oct.

Keep posted! Good Luck

Thanks PolaskyRN! Good luck to u too!
