New Grad Resume critique for dream hospital. Any advice greatly appreciated!

Published

Hello! Getting my resume together for my dream hospital (in California) has got me feeling the anxiety I felt when I applied for nursing school all over again. I've been trying to perfect my resume using suggestions found all over the internet for new grad nurses but it's so difficult when you get all sorts of advice saying "Keep it one page", "1.5 page resume is ok", "don't add an objective/summary", and so on.

This is the only time I will get to apply to this new grad program this year so the pressure is on. I'm applying to a NICU and perinatal position ( I love babies and moms! I can't wait to be surrounded by them!).

Aside from this resume, I will be adding a cover letter.

The format I followed is from a sample new grad rn resume in Brenda Brozek's (MAOL, RN, she's been a hiring manager in California I believe) "You're Hired: A Nurse's Guide to Success in Today's Job Market".

Everything up until my clinical practicum info mentioned below has fit onto one page ( size 10 font). I have left my clinical practicum for the end in case there is a section in the application where I can input this. If there is only a place for my resume then I intend to incorporate this into the education section.

Clinical Practicum/Site/Number of Hours:

Client Assessment: San Diego State University Skills Lab/ Scripps La Jolla Hospital, San Diego (90)

Fundamentals of Nursing Practice: Scripps La Jolla Hospital, San Diego (90)

Nursing Care of the Acutely Ill Adult (Med/Surg): Sharp Memorial Hospital, San Diego (225)

I would put the education first, then professional organizations then certifications. then the experience. That is how my resume is.
