New Grad....Relocating to Houston. Help!!!

U.S.A. Texas

Published

Hi everyone! I will be graduating in exactly 45 days and very soon after I will be relocating to Houston, TX. This is all new to me and with the abrupt relocation doesnt make anything easier . After reading several other threads, I have learned to seek employment outside the TMC. But I am still finding things to be equally difficult. Is anyone familiar of any locations hiring new grads?

Try the LTAC hospitals and rehab hospitals such as Kindred, Triumph, Healthsouth, etc. These types of facilities are often willing to take a chance on hiring a new grad. By the way, there is no nursing shortage in Houston. Good luck to you!

Make sure you have your TX license before you apply for jobs.. employers are not willing to wait on that process these days.

The formal new grad programs (internships, residencies, etc) are usually geared toward Spring grads, so don't expect to get into one of those. However,if an employer is willing to hire new grads, they will have a structured orientation process for you.

Thanks sooooo much for the advice guys...I think I was living in a fairytale world. I am currently waiting on word from St. Luke New Grad program...*fingers & toes crossed*

Most of the hospitals do nursing intern/residency programs. Check the hospital websites frequently; many post and close quickly. Good luck with St. Lukes I hope you get it!!
