Hi everyone ... I just wanted to introduce myself. I'm a new grad RN, BSN and just got a job at a great children's hospital in my area. I just started on a med/surg floor with infants thru about 6 years. The orientation is great so far and I'm very excited but nervous to start on the floor! I know I've got sooooo much to learn and was wondering if anyone can offer some advice for a new grad nurse starting in peds! Thanks in advance.

Congratulations! I hope you love it.
My piece of advice is don't be afraid to listen to the parents. If they question something, stop and check it out. Often the parents, particularly of chronically ill kids, are very knowledgeable about their child's history and care.
Good luck!!

Congrats! I start Monday 7/28 on PICU and I am nervous yet excited!!!! I wish I could go straight to the floor just to take a little peak at the kiddos! I can't wait to start making a difference in someone else's life!
Ahh I am so jealous! I can't wait to have a job (I'm currently searching!).
Good luck!

Thanks! I'll let you know how it goes. You will find one! How is the job market in your area? What unit are you interested in?
Thanks! I hope so! It's supposedly really good, I'm looking in NJ and NYC. It's hard when you don't have your license yet though. I graduate in 4 weeks -- I can't wait! I am interested in PICU, NICU, or L&D.
That's good! Since you graduate in a month, I'll have a month on ya so I'll let you know how my peds experience is going so far. Keep in contact about boards and stuff. When you go on your interviews just make sure you sell yourself!
