new grad. on a PCU floor

Published

Hi there,

I just recently got hired for a multi system PCU position. I'm a brand new grad and need advice on how to prepare for such a busy floor. I have been given 3 months of orientation which I started today 10/6/17. I need help on what do you expect from shift change report, and stuff like that.

That's the kind of stuff you learn on orientation. That's what orientation is for. They'll teach you what you need to know.

The best tip I can give you ... is to make the extra effort to establish good relationships with your preceptors, your unit educator, and the staff in general. If you can establish a good relationship with them, they will be of invaluable help to you as you learn your new job. If you can't establish a good relationship with them, it could get ugly.

Good luck.
