Does anyone know if the hospitals will hire a new grad to a part-time position? I am getting ready to graduate in May from an ADN program and have a 2 & 6 year old. I really don't want to go to work full-time yet, at least until Summer 2007 when my 2 year old will start preschool. Many of the New Grad Programs are really attractive but they require you to work full-time for the duration of the orientation, which isn't that big of a deal, but then many hospitals want you to sign a contract to continue working full-time following completion of the program for a period of time (six months to a year). I don't want to commit to something like that right now. Has anyone else been in this type of situation? Any information or suggestions would be great.

I think for the most hospitals will want you to work at least a year before part time. It gives you a good base to start from and work on your skills. I am planning to go part time after I have finished my year. I have a 1, 5, and 7 year old and it is hard working full time. I just keep counting down the months. 5 more to go! Good luck finding a hospital that meets your needs. Raising babies always should come first, they are only little for a short time.

All the hospitals around here (SE PA) do hire new grads on a part-time basis.
Good luck!
