So this is my second career after the recession destroyed my previous career. Excelled though school. Excelled through clinicals and residency. Passed the NCLEX with ease. And I have two years of ED tech experience. So I was ecstatic when I finally got my first job in an ED at a small hospital. I've been in the program since December and have been orienting in the ED for the last four weeks. All of my preceptors up to this point have said I'm doing fine and progressing well. Until this latest preceptor.
She tells me I'm not progressing fast enough to be on my own after orientation ends. She says that my time management and prioritization skills need a lot of work. She has set up a meeting with my manager, herself, and the educator tomorrow to come up with an action plan. In the meantime, she has suggested that I may want to start looking for another job in case I fail. I won't even go into how this makes me feel. But I'm going to start looking for tele jobs since my confidence for ED work is blown after this experience.
My biggest question is how do I represent this job on my resume when I start looking for tele jobs? It's not the most positive of things to put on your resume. Any other advice is welcome as well.
Best,

So, all of your other preceptors think that you are progressing well and this one doesn't. Either you are progressing well and the last preceptor has an issue with you or all of the previous preceptors were non-confrontational and didn't want to be the one that told you that you weren't progressing well. It is telling where the last preceptor's priorities are: set up meeting with manager, educator, and herself to discuss action plan (does that meeting include you or the other preceptors?), tell orientee that they should look for other job (so much for the action plan). It sounds like they are getting what they want: you lose confidence and find another job.

Couldn't be much help as this is the story of my life right now and we are on the same boat. I am curious as to what others' advice on our situation. I am currently being trained in the ICU. All of my preceptors told me I am doing excellent and then there's this one high and mighty preceptor telling me that I don't have time management skills and that I am lacking critical thinking. Totally crushed my confidence in being a full fledged critical care nurse.
I am curious, how was your meeting with them? Any resolved issues?
