New grad orientation issue!

Nurses New Nurse

Hi everyone!

I just got my orientation schedule in the mail today for a new grad job that starts on May 3rd. The first week is HR related stuff on Monday and Tuesday, with "RN Orientation" in the Dept of Nursing Education from Wed-Fri, which appears to be all classroom-based. Computer training, EKG classes, and other critical care classes are the following week. My problem is that before I even interviewed with this hospital I had already scheduled another commitment for that Friday the 7th (out of town wedding...flying out early that day). I clearly was foolish in not mentioning this during the interview but didn't want to ruin any chances of not getting hired.

Would it be terrible if I were to call HR and ask if there was a way to reschedule this one day?

what do you think? although, my husband has the point.

your husband has a point in an ideal work/economic world. the reality is, right now, employers are not picky. when someone new asks for time off early on in employment, most employers make the assumption that the employee will be a flake so they cut their losses now rather then later. thus, i agree with you on this one... next time do not take time off for any reason.
