New grad nurse

Published

Hi guys! I graduated in Dec 2017 and passed the NCLEX in Feb 2018. I didnt started applying for jobs because I was pregnant at that time and most of my professors told me it was better I wait.. so I did. Fast forward to now, I have been applying since Aug and havent had any luck. I'm getting so worried now. Any advice. Anything will help :(

It depends on a lot of things. What type of jobs you're applying for, the area, the demand for specialties, etc. If you're in the Chicago area I'd recommend just applying and re-applying. If you're in an area where there's not as much demand you might have to be a bit flexible in terms of where and when you're willing to work. Also have you gotten any feedback from the jobs you've applied to??

I'm applying to all types, not being picky at all. Yes I'm in the Chicagoland area and honestly I just keep applying and re-applying. I've contacted a few recruiters but never get a response, which sucks so much. The only feedback I've gotten is that I'm not qualified.

Literally the worst, but thank you so much for your advice!

It might have just been a hard time of year to apply. Most new grads start in August, so if hospitals only hire new grads during their specific start times (which many of the ones I'm familiar with do), then the next window really isn't until after the December graduates (start date usually around March). But you should start seeing more things opening up specifically for new grads if they haven't already. I was a December graduate and I feel like by this time in December I had just finished applying to the 3 new grad positions I applied for.
