New Grad Nurse - Starting new job next week at Rhode Island Hospital

Hey everyone! I just joined allnurses.com and I love all of the great info and advice from other nurses out there!

I just graduated with my BSN in May and passed the boards (in MA) this summer - and finally got a job at Rhode Island Hospital on Co-Op 3 which is a General Surgery/Trauma Unit! I am really excited AND really nervous!!! Being a new nurse is intimidating and I was wondering if anyone had any advice for me just starting out on such a busy and interesting unit as this one!

Also, if any one currently works at RIH, what info can you share with me about working there overall? Seems like a great place to start being a large teaching hospital and Level I Trauma Center!

Congrats on passing your boards and being hired at RIH! I worked as a CNA in the Co-Op building not too long ago Co-Op 4 (Cardiovascular Med/Surg.) but occasionally did shifts on Co-Op 3 and Co-Op 2 (Ortho Med/Surg.) Co-Op is a great place to start off as a new grad. nurse because you will see a lot and if you get a chance to pick up extra shifts on the other Co-Op floors be sure to take the chance. I have a friend who works in Co-Op 3 at the moment and she loves it. Personally, I found that there was a little bit too much drama in the Co-Op building for me but I have friends who still work there and like it a lot. My tips are to just try to learn as much as you can and don't think that you above helping the aides.

Thanks so much for the info - I really appreciate it! Yeah Co-op 3 is where I am starting, but that's great to hear that you can pick up shifts on the other floors! I have heard from other nurses that it's a great learning experience on the Co-op units, I hope to learn a lot!

...and avoid all drama!
