New Grad Nurse - RoHealth School Nurse

Published

Hi everyone! So I got hired at RoHealth as a new grad RN but unfortunately, am having a negative experience with them. I was wondering if anyone has worked for this company as a new grad and what it has been like so far? I did not know this but, they don't offer much training/shadowing, has anyone experienced this with them?

Specializes in Vents, Telemetry, Home Care, Home infusion.

Ro Health "is a leading nationwide health care staffing company. We support K-12 school districts, delivering essential health services to students."   This company is part of the Roman family of companies who got their start as Roman -- a telehealth company in 2017providing erectile dysfunction meds and expanded into many online businesses.

New nurses do not have enough education nor training to be working independently  in a staffing position yet alone school nursing, which has distinct nursing requirements  understanding of school health and student education federal requirements  --not taught in most nursing programs.  School nurses function INDEPENDENTLY as only health professional onsite with no one to discuss urgent situations. Remember Benners theory: one should be at a COMPETENT level to work in the school nurse setting.

I've worked for staffing agencies in the past --lucky to get  more than 2 hrs orientation,

Its in your best interest to resign and find an employer who recognizes new grads need thorough orientation and supportive environment. Becoming a successful proficient nurse is the goal of allnurses --we need each and every new grad to replenish our ranks!

I tend to agree with NRSKaren. It is the exceptional person who can jump in to this role without experience. They tend to have life experience or other experience in healthcare. Possible but very difficult.

You do not know what you do not know.

Sounds like they are not vested in training you very well.  YOU need to protect the license you worked very hard for, they won't.

Nursing school is only the beginning new nurses need to work in a supportive environment where they can learn from others. Companies that don't recognize this aren't prioritizing their patients or staff.
