Hello All,

I am a nursing student and I finish college May of this year with my BSN, I am relocating to Orlando, Fl. from Miami, Fl. I wish to move to Orlando by July/August of 2015, before the school year begins. I plan to apply any and everywhere that has new grad nursing positions. Anyone have any tips for applying to jobs, relocating with children, apartment hunting in Orlando, etc..? Any information would be helpful.

Thanks in Advance...

:-)

Hi, congrats on getting through school! The two biggest hospitals in the area that hire new grads are Florida Hospital and orlando health if that helps. I am also on the hunt and usually use indeed.com to find available positions. Since Orlando is super huge I'd wait to hear back from which particular hospital is interested in hiring you in order to find an apartment since traffic on I4 is such a huge issue.! Good luck.

Thank you, Have you been on the job hunt long? I've been getting mixed answers on the job Market in Orlando and I'm a little worried I wont find a job.

About a month now. I think Orlando is a pretty good place to job hunt as long as you are applying for a New Grad job listing. If anything you could always try Lakeland Regional (LRMC) which may be a bit far but they definitely hire new grads year long even if you apply for a job listing that requires experience.

You probably will have no problem getting hired at Florida Hospital Orlando as they are having huge job fairs etc for new RN's. They can't seem to keep nurses so they are always looking for new hires. I believe there is a new Grad Nurse program starting in March. I don't know about Orlando Health.

I would not worry. And I don't take that statement lightly. Seriously Florida Hospital in Orlando has a huge shortage of RNS currently. You are in demand. All we are hiring is grad nurses because no experienced nurses apply. We were speaking to our manager and asked if we were hiring any experienced RN's she said and I quote, "We would if there was any crazy enough to apply." Yes indeed that is exactly what our manager said. Now that shows that she understands the floor is not exactly a wonderful place to work. That only grad nurses who need a job and will pretty much take any job to get their foot in the door. In fact we have a grad nurse on our floor who is still being precepted who was inquiring about getting out of her contract because it is too much.

Thank you so much for your response. I feel a much better now. I was concerned because my fiance just moved to Orlando (got a good job before I finished school) and he is taking our youngest daughter with him, the oldest is staying with me until she finishes this school year. And I didn't want to move to a whole new city and not find work, I only have a short window before summer break is over. Thank you so much for your response.

I'm currently in the market for a job in Orlando as well. I graduated last August and passed NCLEX in January 2015. I plan on relocating to Orlando next month. I have applied to Orlando Health and FL hospital. So far, I have been rejected to all the FL hospital positions I applied. Their emails state that new grads need to apply to their new grad program.

I have had 2 phone interviews with Orlando Health so far.

I am worried about finding a job in a hospital. I'm trying to avoid long term facilities.

Lakeland is a good hospital?

I think the new grad class starts in March. So maybe they don't want to offer a grad nurse a job until you graduate. They will probably have plenty of openings for you just make sure you apply as a grad nurse. Good luck.

I'm not sure if you are talking to me or not.

This is what is in the rejection email "**Graduate nurses will only be considered on job opening #195649, if you haven't already applied, we recommend that you apply to this position. Congratulations on your recent graduation and thank you for your continued interest in Florida Hospital."

I was told by my cousin that Orlando Health wouldn't hire me before I took NCLEX so I took NCLEX and received my FL license couple of weeks ago. Well, she was incorrect so now I am late in the game on applying for jobs.

Does the statement from FL hospital really mean only new grads will be considered for residency program?

The Feb/March new grad program hit it's max on applicants so I was declined. I don't think I can wait until their next one due to student loans grace period ends next month.
