I've been working as an RN in Boston for the past 5 years (mostly in critical care). I will be graduating this May with an Adult Acute / Gero NP degree. I was wondering if there are any new grad NP's working in Boston who can give me a good idea of what I'll be making when / if I find my first job! If you could tell me the following things I would really appreciate it:
1. What was your hourly rate as a new grad NP
2. Was the rate at all dependent on how long you had practiced as an RN
3. What type of setting do you work in?
4. Do you like your job? Why or Why not?
5. And finally do you feel as though you were adequately prepared to work as an NP right out of school?
Thanks!!!!

A mix of personal experience and data from my recent grad students, though all FNP so AGNP may be slightly lower:
1. Salaries range from 85k to over 100k for new grads depending on the practice area. Most hourly rates are 40-50/hr.
2. Very few places have NP hourly/salary based on NP experience, think big Union hospitals and only if you worked in that specific hospital system.
3. Adult primary and Hospitalist.
4. Love my job. Autonomy in a wonderful collaborative practice environment. Mix of inpt and outpt. Challenging patient panel.
5. As prepared as you can be. Remember that your first year of practice will be like you first year of RN practice times ten.

I am about to graduate with my Adult Geron ACNP in Dec. I am very interested in knowing what ended up happening for you. Would you mind terribly if I asked you to answer your own questions now that you have had a year since you graduated?
