new grad.......new everything

Published

Hi everyone, first post here.

I just graduated in May and passed boards last week, I'm VERY lucky to have already gotten a job on an Acute Care med/surg floor.

I just wanted to see if it is normal to feel COMPLETELY lost. Not necessarily with skills or even medications, but the policies and paperwork just seem overwhelming, I have no idea what I'm supposed to be signing off or having the patient sign. What I'm supposed to fax here or file there. I'm only on my second week of orientation, but I just feel like I shouldn't be this nervous all the time. Hoping it isn't an uncommon feeling.

Any advice would be greatly appreciated

thanks so much!

I am a new RN. I have been an LPN X10 yrs. Most of my time out of the clinical setting. I am on my last week of orientation and have been here over 2 months. I am still nervous and scared. It is OK to feel this way. I plan to hang in there until I cant do it no more. My main goal is to keep my patients safe. Like you my second week i felt like a dummy and still feel the same way.

I'm in my 3rd week of orientation and I feel the same way. Apparently this is how most new grads (and some old grads like myself) feel and from reading the various post on here it is to be expected. I'm constantly asking questions cause sometimes I feel overwhelming lost. I have a pretty good preceptor so whenever I feel lost or need help with anything she is right there. However, there is a lot to learn in regard to policies and documenting. The hospital I work is mostly computerized, so learning the system and where to document everything will just come with time. As for being nervous, I go in with a little anxiety pretty much every day. Some say it takes 6months-1 year to not feel that way. I HOPE SO :yeah: Good Luck with everything. What shift are you working? I'm working 11pm-7:30am (so that in itself is another adjustment) We will be fine we just have to hang in there.

thanks everyone for the words of advice, I'm working 7am-7pm, right now but next week I shift to nights. I wrote down a list of questions to ask when I go back tuesday, lol so maybe I will be more prepared.
