Hey all,
Just curious what the new grad job market is like out in Phoenix. I graduate in May with my BSN and I did my capstone on an L&D unit hoping that may give me an edge to get a job in that specialty. I will be moving from SC with my compact license so that should ease a bit of the licensing issues.
Does anyone have insight on new grads getting hired on a labor and delivery unit? Which hospitals are more likely to consider new grads? I am willing to go medsurg but if it's possible I'd like to specialize instead.
Thanks in advance for your responses!

Market out here isn't the best. With a BSN and L&D capstone, you will at least have an edge on your application, but finding a hospital job, let alone in L&D is very competitive. GL and congrats!
Ah, bummer. I'll send feelers out between when I get licensed and when I graduate to see if I can get any hits back. I potentially have a job here but need to get out of the south.
Thanks for your response!

I have seen more new grad positions in the last six months (compared to the last couple years) - my hospital just had a bunch. But mostly med-surg, ortho, or oncology stuff, infrequently the ER or ICUs. I haven't seen a new grad posting in L&D though.
I came here from NC and know exactly what you mean about needing to get out of the south (my pay went up nearly $10/hour here, and the cost of living is the same!). If you have an option for a new-grad job in SC and can hang on for 12 months, you'll have much better luck getting responses here....or even with 6-8 months in SC, you could still apply for "new grad" jobs at most hospitals here, and maybe regular RN jobs at a few.

Dignity has recently hired new grads into L&D. But the market for jobs here is extremely competitive. Most Banner facilities want a BSN so that may help you with them in general. Good luck, there are many new grads looking for jobs for months after passing NCLEX. :)
