New Grad moving to New Haven

Published

My husband and I are moving to New Haven this summer for him to attend Yale Divinity School so I am looking to start my nursing career in CT. I have applied to some positions online at Yale and St Raphael but have had no luck. I am a bit anxious to have a job lined up because it will be our only income once he starts school full time. I am very interested in pediatrics (and that is where my experience is) but am open to other options.

I would love any advice or assistance is continuing my job search in CT.

Thanks for all the help.

:nuke:

private messaged you some info..

When I moved up there, I found that the hospitals were incredibly slow in responding to job applications, and also that the BON was incredibly slow about processing my license application. (Do you already have your license?)

I worked prn for YNHH and was very happy with them as an employer, and everyone else seemed to enjoy their job there, also. A good friend of mine worked for St. Rafe's for quite a while and had nothing bad to say about them as an employer.

No I do not have my license yet. I am just completing my degree now - I have two weeks left. I am also looking into which way would be best to take the NCLEX. I don't know if I can take it in Illinois for CT or if I need to take it in Connecticut. I think taking it in Illinois and then having it transferred would take too much time and I am ready to start a new position as soon as possible.

I actually have been trying to find the BON information today. If anyone know about the best way to do my NCLEX that would also be helpful. My university has not been able to help me with this.

chigirl: did you ever find out about that all, and get moved? i am looking to do the same thing after graduating from nursing school next year....move right away to newhaven area w my spouse (not for divinity school though:specs:). so any advice, tips, etc?

We will be moving in the beginning of August to New Haven ... I am studying for and taking my NCLEX in Chicago at the beginning of July before we leave. :eek: Yes, I was able to find a job - not my dream job but that is alright. I will be working at Yale (which I really wanted) on a medical/pulmonary unit (which I didn't want so much).

My only advice about finding a job is to start looking early - by early I mean more than 6 months before you move and be VERY persistent!!! If there is anything I can help you with once you start to look please sent me a message and I will do all I can. I now know how hard it is on your own and I wish I have more contacts when I was looking for a position.

Good luck with the rest of school and maybe I will be seeing you soon ;)
