New Grad Moving to Dallas/Fort Worth: Arlington Memorial? Presb. of Dallas? Harris?

U.S.A. Texas

Hi everyone,

I am about to graduate in May and I am looking for ICU/CCU/or CVICU graduate nurse positions or interships in the Dallas/Fort Worth area. A recuiter called today from Arlington Memorial. Is anyone familiar with this hospital? If so can you tell me how it is as far as work environment?

Information on Presbyterian of Dallas, Harris Methodist of Fort Worth, Harris HEB, the Baylor health system and any other surrounding hospital would be appreciated.

Thanks!

Texas Health Resources is the hospital system that operates 13 hospitals in the DFW area including: Harris Methodist Fort Worth, Harris Methodist HEB (in Bedford), Arlington Memorial, Harris Methodist Southwest (FW), Presbyterian Hospitals in Dallas, Plano, etc. It is a great system to work for and you can transfer from one hospital to another without losing anything.

As I live in Fort Worth, I can tell you about the hospitals on this side of the metroplex.

Harris Fort Worth is the largest hospital with a Level 1 trauma center. It is in downtown FW and has a brand new cardiac building (I think that's what it is).

Harris HEB is smaller and more friendly, in my opinion. There are 5 floors, one of which is CSU (cardiac step-down unit). The hospital will be adding on in the next few years. It is in Bedford, a suburb east of Fort Worth.

Arlington Memorial is in Arlington, of course. I don't know much about it except the location. I recommend one of the Harris hospitals.

Everyone I know who works for Presby loves it. I guess it just depends on what kind of lifestyle you want (fast paced or slower) and where you want to live.

You can go to their website for more info: www.thr.org

Good luck!

I did not work in any of the facilities, but I did clinicals for a semester each at Harris in Bedford, Arlington Memorial, and Harris in Fort Worth. I have no complaints about any- had I stayed in the area I would have considered working for any of the 3. Harris in Fort Worth was my favorite, but I am interested in CC and they have a Trauma ICU and Neuro ICU. I also know they hire new grads for their ICU units; several of my classmates went to work there. I can possibly put you in touch with someone that works in a particular unit if you would like, PM me with what hospital and unit.

Hospitals to avoid (according to friends who work there) are Medical Plaza of Ft. Worth and HCA Arlington. Arlington Memorial has a good reputation.

Harris is good and so is Baylor All Saints. I've worked at Baylor for > 10 years and *every* time along the way I wanted to change either my specialty or my hours (I've worked full time, part-time and PRN in at least three different departments) it has not been a problem. They have a fabulous on site child care center that is so good it has a waiting list. A lot of our DR's kids go there too.

hI i WORK FOR THR THE OWNER OF THOSE HOSPITALS THEY ARE GREAT LOTS OF BENIFITS AND GREAT INTERSHIPS CONTACT THR.ORG THEY HAVE LOTS OF INTERSHIPS PLUS TRANSTION/SIGN ON BONUSES THEY LOVE THEIR NURSES. GOODLUCK
