I'm a new grad RN and am considering a position for respiratory med surge. Orientation is for 6 weeks on the floor with a preceptor for about 36 hrs each week. I have previous LVN experience and hope this helps.
I'm wondering if this is an acceptable amount of time to atleast get the feel for med surg. I also need some advice on how to make the most of this experience.
PLS PLS HELP! I'd greatly appreciate some information:)

That sounds pretty good esp w/your experience. Do you have the option for more orientation after the 6 wks should you feel the need? I would request to be scheduled w/the same person each day......advice for learning.....do all you can while you have some one with you, ask questions, & don't be afraid to say help..... I don't understand or I don't know how. Keep asking questions until you do understand & of course let your preceptor know you appreciate his/her experience & time. Good luck!
Thank you for the response! I was told that it would be the same preceptor...I guess you already know what an advantage that is! LOL. I don't know if I have the option of extending the orientation a little...I was just planning on maybe asking the head nurse if I didn't feel comfortable at the end of 6 weeks.
